Freelance Graphic Design Assistant

Kelley Bowen Creative is a dynamic, innovative creative consultancy specializing in brand and marketing strategy. We’re looking for a talented Graphic Design Assistant to assist our Creative Director in delivering exceptional solutions for our clients. This is a unique opportunity for an aspiring designer to learn and grow under the mentorship of an experienced creative leader. 

Job Summary

As a Graphic Design Assistant, you’ll work closely with our Creative Director to support the design and production of various visual materials. You’ll gain hands-on experience in graphic design, project coordination, and communication within a growing creative agency. You will play a vital role in executing design projects, contributing fresh ideas, and assisting the Creative Director in meeting client expectations.

Responsibilities

Design & Production Support

  • Collaborate with the Creative Director to execute design concepts for a range of projects, including but not limited to brand collateral, marketing materials, and digital assets.

  • Assist in the creation and refinement of visual elements, ensuring they align with the brand guidelines and project objectives.

  • Help with the preparation of design files for print and digital distribution, ensuring the highest quality and consistency in output.

Project Coordination

  • Aid in project management tasks, such as organizing design files, maintaining project timelines, and ensuring deliverable goals are met.

  • Work closely with the Creative Director to prioritize and manage multiple design tasks simultaneously.

Communication

  • Facilitate effective communication by conveying project updates, challenges, and progress reports.

  • Collaborate with the Creative Director to gather input, feedback, and insights to refine design concepts.

Skill Development

  • Engage in continuous learning and skill development in graphic design, staying updated on industry trends and best practices.

  • Receive mentorship and guidance from the Creative Director to enhance design skills and expand creative capabilities.

Accountability

  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and projects, ensuring timely and high-quality deliverables.

  • Demonstrate accountability by proactively seeking feedback, addressing challenges, and iterating on designs as needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Education: A degree in Graphic Design or a related field. At least one year of agency or in-house experience, including intern or entry-level positions.

  • Design Skills: Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), with a strong understanding of design principles. Working knowledge of front-end web platforms (Squarespace, Shopify). HTML/CSS and animation skills are a plus!

  • Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate design decisions and collaborate effectively.

  • Team Player: Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset.

  • Organizational Skills: Detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.

  • Initiative: Enthusiasm for graphic design and a strong desire to learn and grow in the field. Proactive and self-motivated, demonstrating a willingness to take on new challenges and learn from experiences.
